A new school just for children on the Joint Base welcomed 600 students September 6 Friday morning for its first day ever.

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST — As young students toured the newly opened Endeavour School for the first time Friday, they looked at the building’s tall, spacious lobby in awe, but they didn’t seem nervous or confused.

As military kids living on Burlington County’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, many of them are used to relocating and starting over. Discovering and exploring new places — some of these students were born in other countries after all — is a big part of their lives, so navigating a new school building wasn’t too much of a challenge, North Hanover Superintendent Helen Payne said as she visited Endeavour on its first day of school.

Netta Architects was retained as the design architect for this project.

UNION, NJ – Netta Architects was honored as the design member of the Kean University Residence Hall project that was selected as one of the Best Student Housing Projects of 2018 by the Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal.

The project which was developed as a Public Private Partnership between Kean University and the Michael’s Organization consists of a 6-story, 112,555 square foot student residence hall with 384 beds and a total of 104 units and housing for 1,200 upperclassmen and freshman students. Amenities include study and social spaces, food courts, game rooms, mail rooms, a fitness center, trade shops, and a conference center.

The design focus of a creative plan to transform the current original campus’s building site into a student community centered around a vibrant “piazza.” The central piazza and common green contain an outdoor food court, seating and a ‘big-screen’ for films and live entertainment. The project is connected into the main campus fabric via the renowned “Cougar Walk.”

This project was completed on a fast track basis in July 2018 in time for the university to move in students for the start of the 2018-2019 academic year.

Netta Architects, Students, Stakeholders Visit Joint Base MDL To Celebrates Halfway Point of North Hanover Township School District’s New Endeavor School

NORTH HANOVER – Netta Architects, students, and project stakeholders were invited to the construction site of the Endeavour School in May to tour the building and learn about plans for the new Pre-K through 4th-grade school opening in September 2019. The ceremony highlighted the benefits to the community’s early and elementary school-age children and the district’s education facilities. It was followed by a tour given by Laurence Uher of Netta Architects and a commemorative signing of a structural beam at the construction site to mark the project’s halfway point.

Superintendent Helen Payne said the addition of an on-base elementary school provides young children of military families the chance to spend their usual two to three years in the district among peers who have had similar experiences. “Our goal was to create a hometown feeling for the little time they’re on base,” she said. “To feel like they have a homeschool.”

The construction is funded through a federal grant of almost $62 million and capital funds from the North Hanover district. The $75 million schools will serve about 800 students. JB MDL students in grades Pre-K through 4th Grade who attend North Hanover Township schools will now go to the Endeavour school. The base’s two existing schools, Discovery and Atlantis, will be demolished and students will either complete the next grade at Endeavour or graduate to the Upper Elementary School for fifth grade.

Boulevard West will provide ample off-street parking and accessible entrances for residents and tenants. Currently, under construction, the project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2018.

Boulevard West will set the stage for continued development of the Belmont neighborhood with a site design that enhances the pedestrian experience and focuses on the ground plane, the intersection of the two streets, and the pedestrian experience, introducing the building to the residents and users of the retail component along Irvine Turner Blvd. The new building is set back from the property line along both facades, creating an urban space and defining the City streetscape with decorative paving, planting, benches, and site lighting.
